Hemel Hempstead Town manager Dean Brennan was understandably impressed by his side’s ‘fantastic’ display against Hayes & Yeading last night.
The Tudors romped to a 4-0 win as they demolished their visitors with goals from Terrell Forbes, Jack Smith, Matty Spring and Matty Harriott.
Brennan was full of praise for his side’s approach to the game, saying: “I was pleased because for about 20-25 minutes at the start of the game we stayed really patient. We didn’t go crashing it long, and we built our way into the game and then really put the pressure on at the end of the first half.
“I’m just delighted with a fantastic performance and a fantastic win which was much deserved.
“They had a chance in the first half which could have changed the game, but full credit to the players; they were brave and the slick pitch helped us to move the ball really well at times.”
Each of Hemel’s three second half goals would be worthy contenders in a Goal of the Month competition, and Brennan admitted he had instructed his players to try their luck on the slick surface.
“We told the lads to get their shots away in and around the edge of the box and they did that – we scored some really good goals,” he said.
“It was good to score from a corner because we’ve been working on them and haven’t scored many from corners this season. I was delighted for Forbesy who put in a late run and finished it really well.”
Brennan was impressed by the overall team display, but singled out two players in particular – captain James Potton and striker John Frendo.
“I thought Potton was excellent and he was probably the man of the match to be honest,” said the Tudors boss.
“John came in and his work rate was excellent, which it always is, but his link play was unbelievable.
“We’ve just got to get him sharper now, because the sharper he is, the better he will be for us.
“His attitude has been spot on since he’s come to the football club, and his footballing intelligence is brilliant so we were delighted with his performance.”
