Gade Valley Harriers representative Sam Tucker was in action this weekend at the XNRG 30-mile Ultra Marathon in the Cotswold Hills.

With an ascent of over 1100m, Tucker completed the challenge in seven hours.

Another Harrier up for a long run was Tom North, who raced at the New Forest Marathon on Sunday. On the trails of the beautiful New Forest National Park and villages, North powered round to cross the line in 3:10:13.

Also in the New Forest – but tackling the half marathon distance – was Tine Searle, who pushed through and completed in 2:11:36.

Gade Valley Tri newcomer Sian Hibbs was in her first Sprint Distance Triathlon on Sunday, where she completed the 750m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run in a total time of 1:22:26, claiming third lady home.

Also competing in the event was seasoned GVH triathlete Dylan Wendleken, who finished in a speedy time of 1:13:48.

Travelling north to Newcastle was Harrier Anthony Willcox, competing in the 13.1-mile Great North Run. Billed as the world’s greatest half marathon, more than 57,000 people ran with Willcox, crossing the famous Tyne Bridge and passing through the streets of Gateshead. Willcox finished in a respectable 1:41:09.

Also taking on a half marathon was Andy Cook, who ran in the Farnham Pilgrim Half Marathon in Surrey. The predominantly off-road course has the reputation of being one of the toughest, but most scenic half marathons in the UK. Cook took on the Surrey Hills in great form and came home in 1:49:34.

Closer to home, at the St Albans Festival of Sport, Peter Tucker competed in their two-lap, 10km race around Verulamium Park on Sunday, finishing in 1:01:49.

In the Swallowfield 10km race in Reading, Berkshire, Mark Crabtree excelled himself to win the race in 33:56.

At the parkruns this week, the Harriers had 11 runners representing the club at five different events.

Gadebridge had four Harriers in attendance, where Anthony James was second home overall in a new PB of 19:33. James was followed by James Thomson in 22:47, Phil Mercer in 28:29 and Leslie Jugoo in 37:02.

Black Park also had four Harriers racing, against 426 other runners. First back for GVH was Vince Ellerby in 19:49, followed by Paula Cook in 27:15, Alice Cook in 36:46 and Jenny Barnett also in 36:46.

Matt Ashby attended the hilly Tring parkrun where he set a new course PB of 20:10, coming back in fourth place overall.

In Brockenhurst, and as a warm-up for the marathon the next day, Tom North from GVH stormed round their parkrun and came back in third place overall in 18:34.

Carol Skates travelled to Aberdeen for her parkrun, where she battled the wind to cross the line in 33:47.
