THREE fighters from Hemel Martial Arts stepped into the ring on Sunday, April 15.

Perry Jones, a 34-year-old quantity surveyor, won silver in the Bournemouth No Gi Open jujitsu competition.

While Phil Saunders, 42, faced his first boxing bout after five years out of the game.

The fight against Ricky Peacock at Croydon’s Sunday Brawl went the full distance with judges declaring it a draw.

However, trainer and professional fighter Denniston Sutherland disagreed. He said: “We are convinced it was a win – even the crowd thought so.”

Things did not go quite as well for James Caird who was fighting Ed Kelly in a kickboxing contest.

The 28-year-old went in full guns blazing and by the forth round had completely exhausted himself so trainer Denniston decided to throw in the towel.

He said: “He was so tired he couldn’t lift his hands up so I didn’t want him getting hurt – he couldn’t protect himself enough.”

Hemel Martial Arts based in Fensomes Alley, Hemel Hempstead, is currently looking for larger premises. If you have available space on offer email bigjoe766@gmail.com or visit the Hemel Martial Arts page on Facebook.
