Home advantage paid dividends as Redbourn’s own Micaela Du Plessis bagged top spot in at the Redbourn Golf Club Junior Girl’s Open
Micaela, 14, won the title with an excellent gross score of 84 gross – beating off the competition of girls from across the region.
More than 40 young women aged between seven and 17 turned out for the event on Redbourn’s 18-hole Ver Course, with Micaela proving the best of the bunch.
And the Redbourn success did not end there, with Rachel Stones claiming third prize with a net score of 71 and Holly Hunter winning the longest drive competition.
Redbourn did not have it all their own way, however, with Bishop’s Stortford Golf Club’s Lucy Walker bagging the best net prize.
Redbourn Golf Club general manager Ian McDowell said: “It’s always wonderful to see golf being played well and the girls, particularly Micaela, certainly did that.
“My congratulations to all our winners and I look forward to welcoming the region’s young golfers to our club again soon.
“The standard of junior golf is exceptionally high at Redbourn and with golf becoming an Olympic sport in 2016, we could be talking about British gold-medalists of the future.”
A separate competition on the day for girls without a handicap was run on the nine-hole Par-3 Kinsbourne Course, which has holes ranging from 111 to 223-yards long.
Ellie Giles, playing in her first competition and granddaughter of Redbourn’s golf secretary Stuart Hatch, won the nearest the pin competition on the tricky sixth hole.
