Kings Sports 6 St Peters Low Fell 0
KINGS Sports progressed to the quarter-finals of the National Christian Cup with a 6-0 drubbing of Newcastle outfit St Peters Low Fell.
The first 20 minutes were very cagey, with neither team creating many opportunities in front of goal.
It took Kings a while to get any fluency in their play but as the half wore on they began to string some good passing moves together.
Kings eventually took the lead after 35 minutes when a James Rourke free-kick was headed in at the far post by Mikey Okoro.
Kings were now on top but St Peters still looked dangerous on the break and the hosts’ wall did well to block a dangerous free-kick.
With the wind in their favour after half-time, Kings held the upper hand but were finding it hard to find the crucial second goal.
The breakthrough finally arrived after 70 minutes as Kings added a second when Joshue Moya managed to beat a few players and hit home off the post.
Kings kept pressing and were awarded a penalty when the lively James Petitt got into the box and was scythed down by a heavy challenge.
James Rourke’s superb spot-kick put Kings 3-0 up and effectively ended the game as a contest, before Aaron McCovern, Pettit and Will Cockram sealed the win late on.
