Langley Tennis Club youngster Matthew Carroll was put through his paces at the Lawn Tennis Association’s National Talent ID Day at the National Tennis Centre in Roehampton.

The 13-year-old was among 24 youngsters from across the country invited to take part in the London session.

Matthew showed off his skills in front of the LTA Talent ID team, who were aiming to spot players with the right attributes that could enable them to make a real impact on the game.

Matthew said: “It was my first time and I think it went better than expected.

“On the way to Roehampton I was not sure exactly what to expect but the coaches are really supportive and that helps a lot.

“The drills are challenging but really good fun, especially when you are testing yourself against other players.”

The day was overseen by LTA head of talent management Andrew Lewandowski who was impressed by what he saw.

He said: “Matthew has performed really well and shown lots of ability across a number of different tasks testing qualities including athletic ability, coordination, speed and agility and a real natural talent and love for the sport.

“It was fantastic to see so many enthusiastic and talented players give it their all.

“The LTA is committed to developing and supporting talent, and we now have the systems in place to give players like Matthew the best possible chance of reaching their potential so I look forward to seeing him progress.”
