Stevenage Borough Ladies 2 Hemel Town Ladies 2 (AET)
HEMEL Town Ladies suffered the heartbreak of a penalty shoot-out defeat as they were knocked out of the Herts Women’s County Cup by Stevenage Borough.
With the game locked at 2-2 after extra-time, Hemel missed their first spot-kick and Stevenage kept their cool to progress to the semi-finals of the competition.
On a poor playing surface, Hemel started brightly, with striker Suzy Read looking particularly dangerous up front.
The visitors pressed for an opener and it was midfielder Hannah Noonan eventually gave the Tudors a deserved 1-0 lead.
Stevenage equalised soon after half-time, though, and the hosts somehow managed to get to 90 minutes with the scores still level.
Extra-time saw Hemel again take the lead through a Charlene Turturici strike from outside the box, but the scoring was not done there.
With Hemel seemingly heading into the semis, Stevenage grabbed an equaliser and took the game to the dreaded penalty shoot-out lottery.
Hemel were first to step up but a poor strike was easily saved by the keeper. All penalties were then converted giving Stevenage a 5-4 margin to seal their progression and send Hemel crashing out.
