Hemel Hempstead Swimming Club sit in second place in the National Arena Swimming League after a strong showing at Eltham in the second round of the competition.
Battling against tough competition from Greenwich Royals A and St Paul’s Barnes, the Hemel swimmers notched 598 points with 11 first-placed finishes, eight seconds and five thirds.
Swimmer of the gala prizes were awarded to Grace Rayner and Matt Sherriff. Grace achieved a personal best in the 200m IM in the opening event, while Matt came home in first place in a PB time in the U15 100m butterfly.
Other PB’s came from Megan Pirrie, Shona McKenna, Paige Wilding, and the winning boys’ 6x50m freestyle relay team of Liam Barnett, Freddie Woodcock, Paul Cox, Matt Sherriff, Sam Pigott, Tom Sherriff,
First places were also achieved by the girls’ and boys’ U15 4x50m relay and U15 4x50m medley relay teams.
The girls’ teams consisted of Wilding, Rayner, Emily Jelfs and Aimee Abrey, while the boys’ representatives were Ollie Ayres, Joshua Coulson, Peter Kennett and Sherriff.
The boys’ open 4x50m medley relay team also won, as did the U15 100m backstroke squad.
Further individual wins on the night went to Pirrie, Ben Garratt and Sherriff.
