Alex Pike admitted Gosport Borough were given a harsh footballing lesson in their 6-2 Vanarama National League South defeat by Hemel Hempstead Town.
Borough, without four players through suspension, were torn apart by the visitors, particularly in the first half.
The home defenders were rarely on the same frequency at the newly-renamed Aerial Direct Stadium.
The game was virtually all over as a contest by half-time as the Tudors raced into a 4-0 lead.
Borough showed a bit more fight to pull two goals back after the break but were well beaten by the end.
“That is easily the worst Gosport performance I have seen in 10 years,” said Pike. “It could have been seven or eight goals.”
“Having said that we could easily have scored three goals of our own in the opening 45 minutes.
“When you have three of your key players plus the league’s leading goalscorer suspended you are always going to have problems.
“We were given a footballing lesson by a big, strong, experienced side.
“Their experienced pair of Dennis Oli and Jamie Slabber up front were too good for our naive defenders.”
Four goals in seven disastrous first half minutes left Borough with an impossible mountain to climb.
The catalogue of disasters began in the 31st minute when goalkeeper Nathan Ashmore made a gift of the first goal.
Looking to clear from near the corner flag he sent his clearance straight to Matt Spring who sent the ball back into the unguarded net from inside his own half.
Noor Husin quickly added a second with Slabber grabbing a brace before the break.
Gosport returned for the second half with renewed vigour and after five minutes Mike Carter squared the ball across for Rowan Vine to score.
When Lee Wort reduced the arrears further in the 68th minute Borough sensed a dramatic fightback might be on the cards.
That, however, proved to be a false dawn and the Tudors extinguished Borough’s resistance with two more late goals.
“I thought we had a good penalty shout turned down at 4-2 but really that is just clutching at straws,’ said Pike.
“When you have so many players missing the last thing you need is your goalkeeper gifting them the first goal.
“Nathan (Ashmore) has got us out of a lot of holes over the years so I am not going to criticise him.
“I thought the players would have appreciated that and try to cover his mistake but that just didn’t happen.”
