Youngster Haydn Williams set some impressive PBs as he competed in the English Athletics U15 Combined Events Championships at the Bedford International Athletics Stadium.

Day one of the octathlon included the 100m (14.37s), high jump (1.35m), 400m (64.90s) and javelin (21.06m), with the day ending with Haydn in ninth position.

Day two included the 80m hurdles (13.93s), discus (12.10m), pole vault (2.40m) and 1,000m (3m 13.8s).

Despite being injured during the pole vault, 12-year-old Haydn managed to get into eighth position by a slender 20-point margin, and was determined to keep the position as he went into the final event of 1,000m.

Keeping in with the leaders of the race, Haydn then took the bold move to lead the race with 400m to go, with the announcer and the crowd cheering him on as he headed for home.

He was extremely pleased with the race despite being taken by the eventual octathlon winner on the home straight.

Haydn thoroughly enjoyed the weekend and his first experience of competing in an octathlon.

One of the highlights of the event was when he collected his numbers with his name printed on them.
