Lifelong QPR fan Lewis Todd made his U21s debut this week – aged just 16 - and now the young goalkeeper is aiming to be a more regular fixture in Paul Hall’s squad.

Todd, who comes from Hemel Hempstead, was previously a season ticket holder in the South Africa Road stand with his family.

He was set to be involved with the U18s this pre-season, but explained his late call-up to www.qpr.co.uk.

“It was unbelievable to play, to be honest – I didn’t expect this at all,” the youngster said, after coming on for the final 30 minutes of the U21s’ win over Verbania Calcio on Monday.

“I got a last-minute call-up to come on tour, and it’s been great.

“I was originally meant to be in Birmingham with the U18s. Then I got a call the day before they left, saying I was needed.

“The manager (Paul Hall) has just told me to try my hardest, and see if I can get into the team.”

Monday’s victory proved to be an easy one, with the U21s cruising to a 15-0 success (yes, fifteen!).

Todd pulled off one smart save but didn’t have too much to do otherwise. Not that he cared, mind.

“It was a great experience, regardless,” he continued. “Playing with people four or five years older than me, it’s just great.

“I’ve picked up lots of stuff from Joe Lumley (QPR U21s’ number one goalkeeper) already.”

Todd added: “My aim for this season is to start for the U18s, first and foremost. That’s my main priority.

“But I want to push on and maybe get into the U21s team. I’m always looking to further myself.”

The U21s return home to London on Saturday, straight after a fixture with Swiss side FC Lugano.

Speaking about the team’s current stay in Italy, Todd said: “This is my first tour with QPR. The weather is warm! But it’s something you have to get used to.

“Training-wise, it’s hard and certainly not easy. The temperature wears you out quite a bit. But I’m enjoying it.

“Hopefully I can play again. I’m not expecting to, but hopefully I will.”
