Hemel Stags will be targeting only their fourth win of the Kingstone Press League One season when they host fellow strugglers London Skolars this weekend.

Skolars travel to the Penine Way Stadium on Sunday (ko 2.30pm) having won only one of their 11 fixtures to date.

They currently sit second bottom the table, one place and four points behind the Stags.

Hemel go into Sunday’s game on the back of another defeat, but can take heart from their second-half performance in the 32-14 loss at title hopefuls Rochdale Hornets.

It looked like it was going to be a long afternoon at Spotland, the home of Rochdale Football Club, when the home side raced into a 20-0 lead.

But Hemel showed some fighting spirit to get themselves into the game, only for the Hornets to finish strongly and seal a good win.

Danny Bridge and Danny Yates both helped themselves to two tries apiece for the Hornets.

Bridge, Yates (2) and John Cookson scored the first-half tries and Yates added two goals as the home side moved into that big 20-0 lead, before Eddie Mbaraga got Hemel on the board on the stroke of half-time.

Yates added another goal before Jordan Yates went in for Rochdale’s fifth try.

Then came Hemel’s mini fightback, with Michael Brown and Mbaraga going in for tries, with Ben Young adding a goal as the Stags battled away gamely.

But Bridge went over the libe in the final minute and Yates added a fourth goal to wrap things up.
