Daring students from Ashlyns Secondary School will join 500 other participants from across the region and challenge the raging white water rapids at Lee Valley White Water Centre during the London 2012 venue’s fifth annual Schools Festival.

On Wednesday, July 8, secondary schools from every borough in London, as well as Hertfordshire and Essex, will raft the rapids for free just weeks before the world’s best paddlers tackle the same white water course in the 2015 ICF Canoe Slalom World Championships.

Leading British Canoeing athletes will be on hand to lend advice, motivation and support to the pupils as they take a break in their preparations for the World Championships which run between September 16 and 20.

The Schools Festival will be hosted by Lee Valley Regional Park Authority in partnership with the venue operators Lee Valley Leisure Trust.

The centre’s annual Schools Festivals are a tangible legacy from London 2012 which have given thousands of young people the chance to try white water rafting for free.
