It was an exciting finish to the second match of the season for Dacorum & Tring AC’s Southern League ladies’ and men’s team.

Lying third for most of the afternoon, the team pulled up to second place – narrowly missing out on winning by just 3.5 points.

The final result was Ryston Runners 297.5; Dacorum and Tring 294; Serpentine 286; Woodford Green & Essex Ladies 226; Thurrock 206.5; Mornington Chasers 25.

Highest point scorers for D&T were Jess O’Sullivan, Emily Higgins and Trevor Ratcliffe who all added 16 points to the team’s tally.

First places for the ladies’ team were achieved by: Zoe Williams - 200m B, 27.40s, long jump A, 4.93m; Isabelle Amos - 400m B, 68.45s; Laurette Wenborn - high jump A, 1.45m, long jump B, 4.73m; Charlotte Radcliffe - high jump B, 1.36m; triple jump A, 9.73m; Jess O’Sullivan - pole vault, 2.70m; Summer Clarke - 100m B, 14.49s; Emily Higgins - 800m B, 2:41.00. There were also wins for the ladies in the 4x100m and 4x400m relay races.

For the men’s team, first places were recorded by: Trevor Ratcliffe - javelin A, 54.26m; discus B, 28.83m; Shaun Wall - shot A, 10.81m, javelin B, 42.82m; Jon Rendell - 200m A, 23.1s; Jack Parslow - 3k A, 8:52:67; Mike Garden - pole vault, 3.20m; Courtney Hart - long jump A, 6.34m; Chris Line - discus A, 39.58m.

The match finished with a fine win by the men’s 4x400m squad in a time of 3:40:36 – thanks largely to a very gutsy performance from Ben McGuinness.

Going into the second leg in fourth place, he passed the opposition to come home in the lead, and the team never looked back.
