Berkhamsted booked their place in the quarter-finals of the Herts Charity Shield by beating Hatfield Town in a penalty shoot-out.
Berko made a great start to the game, with two of the ex-AFC Dunstable players combining for a goal in the fourth minute.
Courtney Massay crossed from the right and BJ Christie volleyed a goal to add to his hat-trick against Southend Manor.
Josh Chamberlain doubled Berko’s lead on the half hour mark with a speculative long range shot that John Shearer got his hands to, but with one eye on the incoming forwards he only succeeded in pushing the ball into the net.
Ashley Morrissey played in Christie but his shot was cleared and, when Morrissey got on the end of a long clearance from Tasker, he outstripped the defence for pace and looked like scoring but lobbed just over the bar.
At this stage Berko were coasting on a dry bumpy pitch. However a series of defensive errors allowed Hatfield to amazingly come from two goals behind to take the lead.
Carl Tasker could not hold on to a free-kick in the 37th minute and Dan Campbell netted for Hatfield by tucking home the loose ball.
Early in the second half, Gary Warne was allowed a free near post header from a corner to equalise.
Masssay went close to restoring the Berko led with a free-kick that whistled past the post.
But former Broadwater favourite Gary Sippetts pounced on some hesitation and held off James Baldry before putting the much improved home side in front with 15 minutes to go.
Mick Vipond replaced two of the new midfielders, Craig Butler and Max Farrelley, with Kieran Turner and Adiel Mannion.
With time running out Jordon Frederick equalised with a shot after the ball was flicked into his path by the tall Ed Canham from a long throw by Chamberlain.
Being a pre-season match, there was no extra time, just a penalty shoot-out.
Hatfield put one over the bar and hit the post with their fifth penalty so Berko only had three goals to beat.
They did that with one to spare as Baldry, Morrissey, Chamberlain and Massay all scored without the keeper getting near their penalty kicks.
On a date to be arranged, Berko will be at home to Sun Postal Sports in the quarter-finals as they beat London Colney 2-0 on Tuesday night.
