Max Whitlock has completed a golden hat-trick by adding the individual floor title to his ever-growing list of Commonwealth Games accolades.
The Hemel Hempstead gymnast put in a scintillating display of twists and turns to score a superb 15.533 in front of an appreciative crowd in Glasgow.
Described by commentator Matt Baker as a ‘gymnastics robot,’ Whitlock looked in control throughout his routine and rightly justified his pre-competition favouritism.
He was streets ahead of his nearest rivals, with David Bishop taking the silver medal and Scott Morgan winning bronze.
Max goes again this afternoon in the final of the rings and pommel horse, and he will be short odds to add at least one more gold medal to his collection.
Speaking about his victory, Whitlock said: “This medal gives me a lot of confidence going into later events with three medals under my belt now.
“I’m looking forward to the battle with Louis Smith and Daniel Keatings in the pommel horse now.”
