A hardy trio of Gade Valley Harriers took on the Race to the Stones 100K Ultra Marathon at the weekend.

The 62-mile race started in Chinnor, South Oxfordshire, and travelled along The Ridgeway, crossed the Chilterns and the North Wessex Downs, before finishing in Avebury, Wiltshire.

Martin Storrie and Simon Geary took on the massive challenge in one go, while Sarah Stilwell took the two-day option, camping overnight.

Storrie’s chances were severely hampered as he sustained a bad knee injury at the eight-mile mark while trying to avoid a fallen runner.

He struggled on to the 30-mile mark, but had to retire as the pain and swelling had become too great.

It was much better news for Geary who completed the whole 62 miles in one go, and crossed the line in 13 hours 37 minutes 19 seconds. That was good enough for 130th place.

Stilwell, meanwhile, completed the huge challenge in a combined total of 15.5 hours.

Earlier in the week, Harriers Jan Hudson and Tina Searle competed at the Waddesdon Manor Summer 5K race in Buckinghamshire.

Racing around the National Trust property, Hudson set a new PB of 26:58 minutes, with Searle finishing close behind in 27:34.

Saturday saw two Harriers at the St Albans parkrun - Maxine Bateman and Helen Heathcote. Bateman set a new PB of 26:00 and Heathcote finished in 30:09.

John Lawler and Vince Ellerby were running at Black Park parkrun where Lawler – returning from injury – was first back in 19:46, with Ellerby just behind in 19:56.

On Sunday, six Harriers visited High Wycombe to take on the notoriously hilly Wycombe Half Marathon.

The 13.1-mile course started and finished in the picturesque surroundings of The Rye, and attracted 597 runners.

Tracy Aldridge Jones was first Harrier home in 1:45:22 and in the top-10 ladies finishers, followed by Dave Wise in 1:48:09, Russ Baily in 1:52:34, Susie Ivin in 1:59:48, and both Tina Searle and Tanya Saunders in 2:13:40.

Also on Sunday, Laura Sharma persevered through a knee injury to complete the Leeds 10K in 47:50.
