The Tudors played Conference North opposition for the second time in two days as they played out a 1-1 draw at Northamptonshire side Brackley on Thursday evening.

Once again the game was played in hot and humid conditions, but it was another good test for the visitors as they continue to prepare for the forthcoming season.

Hemel made most of the early running and dominated possession in the first half an hour with Lewis Toomey and Jordan Parkes creating opportunities to open the scoring.

It was new signing James Potton who came closest when he met a Wes Daly free kick at the back post. Heading downwards, the ball flew past the Brackley keeper but bounced up off the hard surface and hit the crossbar before being cleared.

Moments later, Potton came close again when his 20-yard shot was pushed away for a corner.

Brackley started to find their feet after this early pressure and missed two good chances themselves, both efforts being blazed high and wide.

A late Ollie Thorne header was well saved and that brought the first half to a close

The second period started the same way as the first with The Tudors controlling the game without really threatening the Brackley goal.

Substitute Dave Pearce shot wide after creating some space inside the box and Moussa Diarra fired over from just outside the area after a good run.

Both sides made several substitutions throughout the second half and this had the usual effect of disrupting play somewhat.

Hemel still looked fairly comfortable until the 70th minute when Brackley managed a quick counter-attack which resulted in Ollie Thorne conceding a penalty which was expertly dispatched to give the home side the lead – somewhat against the run of play.

The hosts stepped up a gear after taking the lead, and a couple of their young substitutes started causing problems at the back for Hemel but they kept them at bay.

With five minutes to go, Jordan Parkes broke clear on the left before cutting inside only to be felled just outside the box.

He duly stepped up to take the free-kick and planted the ball into the left hand corner to give Hemel a deserved equaliser.
