Berkhamsted Swimming Club had three representatives who all performed at the highest level of the first series of events for the East Region BAGCATs U15 swimming championships.

Charlotte Watson was taking part in her first ever regional swim but was completely unfazed by the event and recorded a time of 2:42.16 for her 200m IM to improve two places on her seeding.

Mason Brand had a slightly below par 400m IM swim but then provided all the excitement in the 100m backstroke final.

Having qualified fourth fastest, he hit the turn in fifth but then nailed the second length to keep fourth place overall in 1:11.01 which was the club’s first ever national qualifying time.

The afternoon session was equally exciting with Mason claiming fifth place in the 200m backstroke, but it was Charlotte’s chance to shine.

Seeded 10th, she made the final for the 100m freestyle and moved up to joint-sixth in the region with a more aggressive swim to post 1:03.64.

An eventful day two then produced three more finals and the first medal of the meet.

Louis Armitage took bronze in the 200m breaststroke in his first ever regional swim in yet another PB, while there were also two eighth-placed finishes for Mason in the 200m breaststroke and 200m butterfly.
