Berkhamsted officially boasts the second-best bowls club in England according to national governing body Bowls England.
Berkhamsted Bowls Club picked up the runners-up award for the second year running at the National Top Club presentation night at the Coventry Hilton hotel.
The award was presented by Bowls England to the club in recognition of their participation, promotion and growth of the game – particularly at junior level.
The club are already making their plans for this season and are hoping to recruit more juniors – they are particularly on the lookout for someone who has the ability and aspiration to become a national champion.
“This youngster could be a girl or a boy as this sport provides opportunity for either to succeed,” said club president Kevin Clarke.
“With curling at the recent Winter Olympics being very popular, the similarities between the two games are very strong. We appeal to any youngster over the age of ten who got excited by that to give bowls a try when the season starts on Saturday.”
The club’s recent success can be traced back to a small grant from the Berkhamsted Youth Council two years ago, when they bought new equipment to attract younger players.
However, they are also urging adults who are looking for a new challenge to give the game a go and keep their national reputation growing.
Berkhamsted are offering free taster sessions throughout May and have an open day on Sunday, April 27 from 10am.
