Berkhamsted returned home with a point from their trip to Biggleswade United as two in-form teams shared a 2-2 draw.
Berko went behind early on before battling back to take the lead with goals from Connor Calcutt and Ed Canham.
However, they were unable to hold onto their lead and were pegged back by a resilient Biggleswade side – much to the frustration of Comrades boss Mick Vipond.
“When you are winning 2-1 after you’ve been 1-0 down, you are always a bit disappointed not to win the game,” said Vipond.
“We just don’t seem to be able to get to the point where we recognise that it is time to play a bit more defensively.
“But what do you say when you’ve got a dressing room full of young lads who want to win the game? It’s a fine line. Sometimes we are caught out by being a little bit too cavalier.
He added: “It was a cracking game of football. At the moment we just aren’t taking enough of our chances, and that’s been the case all season.”
Berko went into the game hoping to close the gap on SSML Premier Division leaders Ampthill Town, but the Comrades fell behind in the 10th minute when Tom Cookman fired in off the inside of the post to beat Carl Tasker.
The visitors soon levelled, however, when a Josh Chamberlain corner was met in the air by Canham, who set up leading scorer Calcutt to rifle a shot past Grant Beckwith.
Berko were enjoying the lion’s share of the possession and Chamberlain, Calcutt and James Bent all created chances that were not taken.
Early in the second half, the visitors went in front as Chamberlain found James Towell on the far side of the area and his low hard cross was stabbed home by Canham.
However, United were soon on level terms as Cookman got his second goal of the game with another well-placed shot after being set free in the area.
Berko pressed hard for a winner as the game went on, while United looked dangerous on the break – but in the end both teams had to settle for a share of the spoils.
The draw keeps Berkhamsted in third position in the table, eight points behind Ampthill but with two games in hand on the league leaders.
At the time the Gazette went to press, the Comrades were preparing for a trip to Ampthill to face the table-toppers in a promotion six-pointer.
Elsewhere, Berko’s development side knocked Farnham Town Reserves out of the Suburban League Cup on penalties on Saturday.
The first leg was 2-2 and Saturday’s game finished 0-0, with Berko keeper Tom Calverley saving three penalties in the shoot-out.
